For deaf/blind older people (i.e. those with varying degrees of both sight and hearing impairments). KAB runs a Guide Communicator Service that provides 1 to 1 community based support, enabling deafblind people to maintain their independence, pursue their interests and access community services. Trained Guide Communicators offer between 2 and 30 hours support per week, and are trained in suitable communication methods such as British Sign Language, block and clear lip speaking. Typically our workers help people manage their home lives, shop, cook access education and health services, enjoy leisure pursuits and hobbies, manage correspondence and communication and so on.
